How to Activate Windows 11 and Windows 10 on ASUS Computers
Activating Windows 11 or Windows 10 can be done using either a digital license or a 25-character product key. On many ASUS devices, a digital license is embedded in the motherboard for automatic activation.
If you purchased a retail version of Windows, you will need to either enter a product key or sign in with your Microsoft account to activate Windows. You can also enter a new product key to change the Windows edition, such as upgrading from Home to Professional.
How to Activate Windows 11
1. View Windows Activation Status
- Open the Windows search bar and search for Activation Settings.
- Click Open.
- Your current activation status will be displayed under Activation.
2. Enter a Windows Product Key
- Open Activation Settings.
- Expand Upgrade your Windows edition and click Change.
- Enter your 25-character product key and click Next to complete activation.
3. Troubleshooting “Windows Hasn’t Been Activated”
Even with ASUS computers, Windows may sometimes show as not activated due to hardware changes or repairs:
- After Repairs: If the motherboard or CPU is replaced, Windows may detect that it’s not activated. ASUS engineers can assist with activation during standard repairs.
- Replacement of Main Components: Replacing major hardware parts may require reactivation. You can reset settings or contact the ASUS Service Center for support.
- System Upgrades or Downgrades: Upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 (or Windows 8 to 10) may occasionally trigger activation errors. Contact Microsoft Support if this occurs.
- Retail Version Purchased Separately: If you installed a retail version of Windows on your ASUS computer, activation may require entering the product key manually.

Always ensure you are using a legitimate product key or digital license to avoid activation errors and maintain system security.
